The Show Runs as follows:

Nov 20 - Dec 6 (3 weekends) at the Celebrate St. James Center for the Arts.

Possible Nassau County run final weekend.

Rehearsals will be 2 - 3 days a week (usually Tues & Thurs from 7:30-10:30, with some Saturdays 1-4pm). Not everyone is called for all rehearsals. Tech week is Nov 15 - 19. There are two tech/dress rehearsals for the Nassau County shows.

Note: Majority of rehearsals will be in St. James.  Tech week will be in St. James. Some rehearsals will be in Northport, and possibly Freeport, depending on the make-up of the cast.

Oliver Twist - Age to look 8 – 13. Male Principal Role (can be played by a female). The protagonist of the story, he is a lonely orphan boy born in the Work-house. He is vulnerable but tough and feisty and should have a strong ability to convey real emotions. British (not cockney) accent. Some minor dancing. Songs: Where Is Love, I’d Do Anything, Be Back Soon, Consider Yourself, Who Will Buy. Vocal range top: E5 / Vocal range bottom: A3

Fagin - Age to look – 50’s. Male Principal Role. A conniving, career criminal whose charm hides a cold heart. He takes in homeless boys and teaches them to pick pockets for him. Perhaps could be described as a man of many dimensions, a leader, a vagrant, a father, a teacher, a lost soul & an eccentric. Significant character acting, singing with some dancing. Cockney accent required. Songs: Pick-a-pocket, I’d Do Anything, Be Back Soon, Fine Life (Reprise), Reviewing the Situation.

Artful Dodger - Age to look 13 – 16. Male Principal Role. (can be played by a female). Very energetic, highly personable, intelligent and savvy beyond his years, Fagin’s right hand “man”. Excellent song and dance skills. Must have a dynamic stage presence. Significant character acting, singing, dancing. Cockney accent required. Songs: Consider yourself, I’d Do Anything, Be Back Soon, Fine Life (Reprise).

Nancy - Age to look 21 – 35.  Female Principal Role. A cockney girl with a warm heart, Nancy is an abused career thief and former child pickpocket. A sensitive side and noble and likeable but hardened and streetwise beyond her years. She lives with and loves Bill Sikes, pretty, intelligent, longs for a better life. Strong singer (belter), actor, some dancing. Cockney accent required. Songs: It’s a Fine Life, I’d Do Anything, Oom-pah-pah, As Long As He Needs Me, Fine Life (Reprise).

Bill Sikes - Age to look 30 – 45. Male Principal Role. A villain and Nancy’s brutal boy- friend. The most evil man you could ever meet whom strikes fear into anyone he sees. Cockney accent. Songs: My Name, Fine Life (Reprise).

Mr. Bumble - Age to look 45 – 65.  Male Supporting Role. The self- righteous, self- appointed beadle, Mr. Bumble oversees the operations of the workhouse were Oliver lives as a child. He preaches Christian morality but behaves without compassion towards the paupers in his care. Songs: Oliver, I Shall Scream, One Boy For Sale, That’s Your Funeral.

Widow Corney - Age to look 45 – 55. Female Supporting Role. The domineering workhouse mistress. Widow Corney is an “old maid”, who has been left on the shelf, would do anything to get Mr. Bumbles attention. Cockney accent required. Songs: Oliver, I Shall Scream.

Mr. Sowerberry - Age to look 40 – 60. Male Supporting Role. The undertaker, a classic Dickensian character tall/thin, precise and a bit slimy. Cockney accent required. Songs: That’s Your Funeral.

Mrs. Sowerberry - Age to look 40 – 60. Female Supporting Role. A loud lady, very bubbly personality, nicest person you could meet, unless you are Oliver. Cockney accent required. Songs: That’s Your Funeral.

Mr. Brownlow - Age to look 50 – 75. Male Supporting Role. Oliver’s kind long lost grandfather, a man of wealth and breeding. British accent. 

Non-Singing

Bet - Age to look 15 – 20. Female Supporting Role. Nancy’s loyal friend who is one of Fagin’s former pickpockets. Cockney accent required. Songs: It’s a Fine Life, I’d Do Anything.

Charlotte - Age to look 14 – 19. Female Supporting Role. The rude but also flirtatious daughter of the Sowerberrys. Cockney accent required. 

Noah Claypole - Age to look 16 – 20. Male Supporting Role. A nasty piece of work who is Mr Sowerberry’s pimply apprentice. Enjoys a flirty relationship with Charlotte. Cockney accent preferred. 

Mrs. Bedwin - Age to look 45 – 65. Female Minor Role. Mr Brownlow’s kind-hearted, motherly housekeeper. British accent. Songs: Where Is Love (Reprise). Vocal range top: B4 / Vocal range bottom: C4

Dr. Grimwig - Age to look 45-65. Male Minor Role. British (not cockney accent). Non-Singing

Old Sally - Age to look 50 – 70. Female Minor Role. Cockney accent required. Non-Singing

Charley Bates – Age to look 10-18. Part of Fagin’s gang. The eldest boy. Non-Singing

Workhouse & Fagin KIDS Age ranges 7-18. boys AND girls. Singers/actors.  Will be in one or more of the following: Workhouse Boys Workhouse Assistants Bow Street Runners Street Vendors (Criers) Crowd of Onlookers and Passersby. 

Adult Featured Ensemble Ages 18+. Singers (all voice types), characters with cockney and traditional British accents. Include in this are the “featured” soloists: 

• The Rose Seller (mezzo)
• Strawberry Seller (soprano)
• Milk Maid (soprano)
• Knife Grinder (baritone) and 
• Long Song Seller (Tenor);
